Mrs. Koss- Trilingual Technowizard

A Lovely Photo of Mrs. Koss.

Bonjour! ¡Buenos días! I am originally from Ludlow, Massachusetts. I graduated from Ludlow High School in 1990, and moved my life to Pennsylvania to attend Marywood College. I graduated in 1994 with degrees in French and Spanish, having only used an ancient Macintosh computer and an enormous IBM with an green screen, huge floppy disks, and no mouse.

In 1996 I married my high school "sweetheart" (although, if you've met him, you'll chuckle at that idea!), Bill Koss. He is a paramedic for TransMed Ambulance and a member of the Sweet Valley Volunteer Fire Department.

When I thought about going back to school to get my master's degree, everyone was talking about educational technology. Since I didn't even remember how to turn on a computer (which turned out to be the hardest part because the power buttons were usually in the back, and you never knew which side it was on in those days), I figured that was a pretty good idea. I was 25 years old with a lot of teaching years ahead of me, and I knew that the students would know more about technology than I would.

It took me until 2002, but I graduated from College Misericordia with my master's in educational technology, just in time to grow my family. My daughter, Kaleigh, was born in 2002, my son, Anton, was born in 2005, and my Bonus Baby was born in 2008.

In 2009 I became involved with the Blended Schools Network (BSN) designing courses to be used online, in-school, and as "hybrid" courses- part online, part in-school. Now that I have a laptop cart in my classroom and access to the iPad carts, I am blending my own classes. My classes are almost paperless, and my students leave my class with real-world technology skills in addition to foreign language skills.

The 2013-2014 school year will be an interesting one. I am teaching French 1, 2, 3 and Spanish 1, as well as facilitating a Rosetta Stone independent study and Lake-Lehman Cyber classes. I may say "bonjour" instead of "buenos días", but I think we'll have a great year.

Rebecca Koss,

Lake-Lehman HS French and Spanish teacher (or as I like to say, Trilingual Technowizard)
